Invited by our institute, Dr. Michael J. Papaik, the ecologist of University of Quebec, Canada,
came to our institute for scientific exchanges from 25th to 29th in May.

 

    During the visiting period, Dr. Michael made a wonderful academic report about Individual-
Neighborhood Competition Model(SORTIE Model) which is used for analyzing forest
dynamic process through stimulating intra- and interspecific competition, plant growth,
recruitment and death dynamics. The participants were all very interested in the topic and
actively took part in the discussion on the related hotspot.

 

    Dr. Michael was engaged in many fields, such as forest ecosystem model, disturbance ecology,
forest ecosystem management and so on. He has accumulated much theoretical and practical
experience and accomplished much significant research achievement. Currently, he is making an
effort to develop SORTIE Model and deal with some related application research.
