The Key Laboratory of Terrestrial Ecological Process, CAS (TEP-CAS) was established in
1992 and approved by Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1994. With a special focus on the
ecological processes in soil-plant system, this Laboratory studies the behavior and fate of
classical chemical contaminants, bio-elements and biogenic greenhouse gases, their ecological
effects, and corresponding controlling mechanisms within the frame of process ecology, aimed
to explore the dynamic patters of ecological processes, consummate their theoretical models,
promote the development and knowledge innovation of applied ecology, and provide a
scientific basis.
Its current study areas include ecological processes of pollutants and ecological chemistry of
pollution control, eco-toxicological chemistry and environmental safety, biogeochemical cycles
of basic elements in soils and ecological processes of nutrients, biogenic processes of
greenhouse gases and environmental change, and molecular ecology of environmental
microorganisms and relevant technology.
