The Herbarium was founded in 1954, and is the largest and most comprehensive herbarium in northeast China. It has a collection of about 520,000 specimens, including 260,000 vascular plants, 120,000 bryophytes, 30,000 lichens, 15,000 fungi, 60,000 insects, 10,000 timbers and 20,000 soils, and more than 10,000 volumes of books and literatures on taxonomy and flora. Its major researches focus on plant systematics and evolution, conservation and sustainable utilization of plant biodiversity, forest insects and diseases, and exploiture of microbial resources.
