Shenyang Arboretum lies in the middle section of beautifully-landscaped south canal belt park of Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, and was established in 1955. The Arboretum, with an area of 5 hectares, has nearly 450 kinds of arbores and shrubs in it. Its main work focuses on the studies of nitrogen fixation of non-leguminous trees, urban forest ecology and environmental protection£¬with emphasis on the introduction and conservation of rare and endangered woody plants native to Northeast China and neighboring regions. The Arboretum was approved as the ¡¡ăNational Base of Science Popularization¡¡À by China Association of Science and Technology in 2000, and designated as an education base by China Ministry of Education, China Ministry of Science and Technology, and China Association of Science and Technology in 2002.
